NJFF Partners with NaFF to Present “Human Resources Manager”
Nashville Jewish Film Festival (NJFF) teams up with Nashville Film Festival (NaFF) to present the new critically-acclaimed Israeli film “Human Resources Manager” directed by Eran Riklis (The Syrian Bride, Lemon Tree) about a personnel officer in a Jerusalem bakery who goes beyond the call of duty for a deceased foreign worker.
Nashville Jewish Film Festival brings “Human Resources Manager” to Nashville on Wednesday, April 20 at 7:30pm and again on Thursday, April 21st at 3:00pm as a part of the 2011 NaFF, held at the Regal Green Hills Cinema 16. The 42nd Annual NaFF runs from April 14 – 21.
Each year the NJFF sponsors a Jewish-themed film of outstanding quality and timely interest at the Nashville Film Festival. As this year’s pick, “Human Resources Manager” (adapted from a story by Israeli novelist A. B. Yehoshua) is sure to be a crowd pleaser. The quirky, poignant tragi-comedy follows the travails of its fascinating and complex characters in a trek from Jerusalem to Romania as the title character attempts to save his reputation by journeying to the homeland of his employee who was killed by a suicide bomb. Picking up five of Israel’s prestigious Ophir Awards, including Best Picture, the film has been a favorite at numerous Jewish film festivals around the globe, as well as Israel’s official submission for Best Foreign Language film at this year’s Oscars.
Preceding the film for both screenings will be the winner of the 2010 NJFF’s Student Film Competition, “On Leave,” an Israeli film by Asaf Saban about a soldier returning home from the army. In addition to the student film’s screening at this year’s NaFF, which will qualify the film for Oscar consideration, “On Leave” was also awarded the $1000 Kathryn H. Gutow Best of Show Award sponsored by Creative Artist Agency.
The NJFF Student Film Competition is currently open for entries for Jewish student films for the 2011 Festival. The 11th Annual NJFF will be held November 2 – 10, 2011 at the Belcourt Theatre.
